How we act as a champion for change and promote sustainability awareness across the sector
From serving on ESG advisory committees to partnership with organisations promoting diversity and inclusion across the industry, Pantheon professionals play an active and leading role in promoting all aspects of the ESG agenda.
Pantheon became among the first private equity signatories of the PRI in 2007 – and joined its Steering Committee in 2009. Jie Gong, co-head of Pantheon’s ESG Committee, served on the PRI's Private Equity Advisory Committee for the maximum three-year term from 2017 to 2019.
During Pantheon Partner Helen Steers’ tenure as chair of the British Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (BVCA) in 2017, the association launched an online Responsible Investment Toolkit that provides both an introduction to responsible investment and practical insights on how to integrate ESG considerations into investment strategies.
Alex Scott, co-head of Pantheon’s ESG Committee, is a member of the affiliate network that is called upon to support the work of the Invest Europe Responsible Investment Roundtable, a permanent forum dedicated to responsible investment and ESG in Europe’s private equity industry.
Jie Gong founded and chairs the ESG committee of Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (HKVCA), in addition to her vice chairmanship at HKVCA, the largest Asian private equity and venture capital association by membership. In 2017 the committee initiated the ESG Award of Excellence, a once-in-two-years award to recognize private equity-backed Asian private companies’ ESG accomplishments. It was the first-ever ESG award in Asia.
Helen Steers is a co-founder and Board member of Level 20, a non-profit organisation set up in 2015 to promote gender diversity across the private equity industry. Pantheon is delighted to be a sponsor of Level 20 and to support its mission to encourage greater female representation across the private equity industry, with the goal of having 20% of senior positions in the industry held by women and with a particular focus on increasing the number of women in investment roles.
